Welcome to Fall!

Hiya, pixies!

Fall is a wonderful, wonderful time. Leaves change colour, pumpkins are carved, and we all prepare for the harvest!

How can we celebrate this glorious season?

With recipes, crafts, and elaborate ceremonies, of course!

Let’s start with a recipe, shall we?

Apple Pie Spice:

I recommend making this recipe at the beginning of the holiday season (late August or mid-September), because it only lasts about six months. You can use this spice in the next recipe or any recipe that calls for apple pie spice! 🙂

You Will Need:

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions:

Mix ingredients together in small bowl, then pour into a sealable container (I use glass spice bottles from Big Lots 🙂 ). Store in a cool, dry place.

Pumpkin Pancakes:

Recently, my sister has started bringing home pumpkin spice pancake batter from work. It. Is. Delicious!

So, I thought I’d share with you something similar (I’m not giving away my pumpkin spice secret recipe, no-sir!) 😉

You Will Need:

1 1/4 cups flour

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 ginger

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 pinch clove

Alternative — Replace cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove with 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice from the recipe above.

1 cup 2% milk You can use any type of milk, but this is what I use 😛

6 tablespoons pumpkin puree  I use canned, but you can make your own!

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 egg

Directions:

Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, spices, and salt in a medium to large bowl. In another bowl, whisk together pumpkin, milk, (melted) butter, and the egg. Fold this mixture into dry ingredients.

Spray a skillet (or use a non-stick one, it’s up to you), put it on medium heat.

If you don’t know how to make pancakes from this point on, I recommend having an adult who does help you 🙂

(Whatever you do, don’t try to learn how to make pancakes as you go. It never ends well. Never. Trust me on this one.)

Squirrel Scavenger Hunt:

This is one of my favourite fall celebrations. Gather a group of friends or go at it alone!

For this scavenger hunt, you will need to find all the harvest season-themed things on this list!

(You can alter this list for your city/surroundings 🙂 )

Squirrel-y Scavenger Hunt List:

3 Acorns

1 Orange Leaf

Two Red Leaves

Anything With “Spice” In It’s Name

1 Pinecone

1 Fallen Branch

2 Dandelions

1 Squirrel

3 Trees With Changing Leaves

Someone Wearing A Scarf Or Mittens

Pumpkin With A Silly Face

Leaf Pile

Someone With A Hot Drink

(If you decide to do this scavenger hunt, post about it! 😀 )
